Miss you guys...

Feeling lonely today. Lots of work to do...I've got to do a big presentation to all the bosses of bosses tomorrow with all the stuff I've been doing since I've been here. Still feeling lonely.

On the other hand, I get to watch 3 episodes of "What Not To Wear" in a row. And my new favorite show, "The Deadliest Catch" on Discovery. The only time I get my proper TV quota is when I'm staying in a hotel!

You can't imagine how much I'm looking forward to seeing you all again...

Hi, Auntie Di...

Had a nice visit with Auntie Godmother Di and family, and hiked up to the top of Mt. Tamalpais to a really cool inn, where you can stay overnight if you book a cabin. Auntie Di says she's going to make Mom hike up there -- I think she would love it.

Saw the girls, of course. Isobel is very grown up, of course (shown here with rabbit...I can't remember the rabbit's name, but he was much nicer than Bronco).

I met Nunu for the first time and she, too, wants to keep up with everything all the older people are doing (shown here running downhill with great gusto).

Their house is not enormous, but very nice, with lots of sunlight and in an incredible location -- right on Panoramic drive, where the treeline divides Mt. Tamalpais from Muir Woods. I've hiked just past their house on my trips here in the past. This is the view from their deck -- that's Tiburon and the Bay...

On the road below, there are banks of the most prolific blackberry bushes I've ever seen...and we picked about a bushel. I've got a quart or so, packed in a jar...but as it's already turning to jam, I might not be able to risk it in the airplane. I might have to eat them all!

Auntie Di gives Mom a great big kiss, and looks forward to entertaining her later this year.

Alcatraz!

This is the place where I had the idea of leaving Ryan in the big house. Mom said it was a bad idea...and it turns out, she was right. But think of the cool stories he could tell about growing up "on the rock."

This was the best farmer's market I've ever been to...ever! Smoked salmon jerky! How cool is that! Plus unbelievable peaches and plums! And a pretty good view.

And speaking of views, a pretty good one from the top of Angel Island...which I climbled!!! Then back to SF, just past the Golden Gate Bridge.

Hollywood Hills

Hey, Katie...I wanted to take a picture of the Hollywood sign for you, but I'm staying in West Hollywood -- which is just too far away to be able to see the sign -- especially with all the smog today!

Take a look at my snappy room (note the Richard Nixon-style gas fireplace/air conditioner combination)...

I'm leaving blazing hot LA today and going back to damp and chilly SF -- man, did I ever pack wrong for this trip! Hope everybody's well and you're getting ready to enjoy a Waynewood fourth of July!

Steep City

No need for working out in this city. I've been walking to the office -- just about 2 miles -- no big deal, if it were reasonably flat. But, you see, it's not reasonably flat...

At the top of the hill, however, is Grace Episcopal Church, whose bronze cast doors are cast as copies from the originals in Florence.

In the church's courtyard is a labyrinth, paved in, that people can't seem to resist trying to walk their ways through.

Welcome to San Francisco!

Got stuck at the gay rights parade on my way to the grocery store. Clearly, it's where everybody goes on a pleasant Sunday afternoon...

But what's this guy trying to say?

The "junior suite" is pretty nice -- kind of like the decor from That Seventies Show

Only problem is...it's 5:00, and I want to go to bed...
